Belarusian president approves new Military Doctrine

Xinhua, January 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko approved on Friday a new Military Doctrine, the press-service of the Belarusian leader said.

The president drew attention to the fact that the new Military Doctrine defines the views of Belarus on military security and armed protection.

Lukashenko confirmed his country's policy of peace, but at the same time expressed the determination in the pursuit of national interests.

According to him, there is no a direct military threat to Belarus. However, he urged to "keep powder dry."

Lukashenko said terrorism had flooded the whole world, from the European continent to the United States of America, and refugees fleeing wars set their feet in Europe. "The contradictions between the Russian Federation and NATO member states have intensified, to say the least. Between them is Belarus, as if between a rock and a hard place," he said.

The threat to global and regional security had not gone away, he said. Further escalation of the situation may have irreparable consequences both for Europe and for all humankind.

Lukashenko is sure that "ensuring stability and security is the main condition for sustainable development of the state and the most important task nowadays." Endit
