Singapore stocks close 1.75 pct higher

Singapore stocks finished higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 44.39 points, or 1.75 percent, to close at 2,577.09.

A total of 1.25 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1.44 billion Singapore dollars (1.01 billion U.S. dollars).

Gainers outnumbered decliners 279 to 156, while 489 others finished unchanged.

The STI index lost 27.07 points, or 1.06 percent, to close at 2,532.70 on Thursday. Endit
