5 students wounded in PKK attack in SE Turkey

Xinhua, January 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Five students were wounded in an attack against an elementary school by the rebels of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Friday, private Dogan news agency reported.

A group of PKK militants attacked Celebi Eser Elementary School in Baglar town of Diyarbakir province on Friday morning, leaving five students wounded, the report said.

On Thursday, another group of PKK rebels attacked a police service bus with rockets and bombs in Nusaybin town of Mardin province, leaving nine policemen and one civilian wounded.

The PKK negotiated a cease-fire with the government in 2013. However, the truce fell apart in the wake of a suicide bomb attack in the border town of Suruc in Sanliurfa Province last July, leaving 34 pro-Kurdish and left-wing activists dead.

The PKK, which has claimed lives of over 40,000 people, is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
