Indian Sacred Buddha Bone Relic to be conveyed for homage in Myanmar

Xinhua, January 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

A Sacred Bone Relic of the Buddha of India will leave Sagaing, Myanmar's northwestern region, for a continued tour through six cities in the country later on Friday, an official report said.

The sacred Buddha bone relic, conveyed from northern India, arrived in Myanmar's second largest city of Mandalay on Thursday and was enshrined in the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Sagaing.

The cities, which the sacred bone relic will be conveyed through, cover Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Meikhtila, Okpo, Toungoo and Yangon where Buddhist devotees will be able to pay homage.

Yangon residents will be able to pay homage to the sacred bone relic at the famed Shwedagon Pagoda.

The relic is a piece of the Buddha's spine which was maintained with reverence since the days of forefathers, said a venerable monk of the entourage member.

At the invitation of the Sita senior monk, the bone relic was brought to Myanmar for the first time for public homage. Enditem
