As of Wednesday, migrants from the Middle East and Africa who arrive in Serbia will be allowed to enter only if they intend to seek asylum in Austria or Germany.
It was announced by Serbian minister of social affairs Aleksandar Vulin in the village of Adasevci, where he visited the temporary refugee shelter near the Serbian-Croatian border, explaining that migrants who wish to seek asylum in any other country except these two will not be allowed to pass through Croatia, Slovenia, Austria or Germany.
Vulin, also the president of the working group in charge of migration, said the decision of restrictions was brought after Serbia was notified that Austria would not allow migrants who did not express intention to seek asylum on Austrian or German territory, so the Serbian government adopted an identical decision and informed its southern neighbour Macedonia.
Control will be established at Serbia's southern border with Macedonia through questionnaires, in which migrants who wish to enter will have to declare in which country they intend to seek asylum.
Vulin said the government would continue protecting the interests of Serbia and migrants who need to safely cross the country with food and medical supplies and pass through a security check. Endit
