1st LD Writethru: 1 killed, 50 injured as university comes under attack in NW Pakistan

At least one person was killed and 50 others got injured when an unknown number of gunmen stormed a university in Pakistan's northwest district of Charsadda on Wednesday morning, reported local Urdu TV channel Geo quoting hospital sources.

The killed was a professor of the chemistry department of the university, said the report.

Fazal Raheem, Vice Chancellor of Bacha Khan University which came under attack, confirmed that the injured included four security guards of the university.

The injured also include a policeman, said local media.

Large contingent of security forces, including army, police and paramilitary forces Frontier Corps, have reached the site shortly after the attack was reported.

Security forces are facing problems in the search operation due to heavy fog shrouding the campus, said local police.

The number of attackers is not known yet, said Tahir, Deputy Commissioner of Charsadda.

The attack has caused a great panic at the campus which has an estimated 3,000 students. Enditem
