Israel arrests Palestinian youth for fatal stabbing attack

Xinhua, January 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Israeli military said Tuesday it had arrested a Palestinian who broke into a home in a West Bank Jewish settlement and stabbed a woman to death.

The suspect was identified as 15-year-old Murad Adais from the village of Yata near Hebron.

On Sunday, he reportedly entered the home of Dafna Meir, a 38-year-old nurse and mother of six from the settlement of Otniel, and killed her before fleeing the scene.

Large forces searched the area over the past days for the suspect who was caught in the settlement's CCTVs.

The incident was one of the most aggressive attacks over the past four months of violence in the West Bank and Israel. It brought calls by Israeli politicians for harsher actions against the Palestinians.

Meir was the 24th Israeli casualty since the current wave of violence erupted in mid-September, 2015. So far at least 150 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or armed civilians, mostly while trying to carry out attacks against Israelis.

Israel has been accusing the Palestinian National Authority of "inciting" the violence, while the Palestinians say it is the result of 49 years of Israeli control of their lands. Endit
