The Los Angeles Clippers sharpshooter J.J. Redick's career-best 40 points propelled his team to a 140-132 overtime victory with franchise record 22 3-pointers over the Houston Rockets at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday night.
Redick tied a franchise record with 9 for 12 3-pointers, tying Caron Butler's club record for 3s and coming within three makes of the NBA single-game record shared by Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall.
"(Redick)'s just been on fire," said Clippers head coach Doc Rivers. "He plays like that all the time, but I think J.J., he was our spirit today."
Chris Paul had 28 points, 12 assists, six rebounds and six steals. DeAndre Jordan managed 16 points and 15 boards in his return after missing two games due to pneumonia.
"I have not seen him (Redick) shooting balls like that since he was at Duke and I was at Wake. It is crazy," Paul said.
Jamal Crawford finished with 17 points off the bench and he said being able to play a basketball game on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is special. "He stood for so much, and he just wanted to see everybody considered equal no matter the color of their skin."
Dwight Howard scored 36 points and hauling in 26 rebounds. The Rockets took 52 free throws overall, 19 more than the Clippers.
It was the Clippers' first victory over the Rockets since Game 4 of the conference semifinals last season. The Rockets had won their previous 11 overtime games since losing at Golden State on Feb. 20, 2014. Endit
