Myanmar to preserve traditional Chinlone sports

Xinhua, January 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar Chinlone Federation will preserve the traditional Chinlone sports through annual tournaments, according to the federation on Monday.

The Chinlone competition will be held annually at the pagoda in Mandalay, inviting teams from different regions and states, the federation said.

Last Saturday, over 20 teams competed in a Chinlone tournament in Mandalay, featuring more than 10 categories including under-15 classes for boys and girls.

Chinlone is a traditional sport of Myanmar, normally played at the pagoda festival, dating back to at least the 7th century, during Pyu area. Chinlone, like golf without rivals playing at the same time, is played by Myanmar people as part of entertainment program as well as a leisure sport.

Chinlone was introduced at the 27th Southeast Asian Games hosted by Myanmar in 2013. Endit
