1st LD: 1 killed, 22 injured in eastern Indonesia quake

One person was killed, 22 others injured and more than 200 houses damaged after a shallow quake hit Maluku province in eastern Indonesia on Sunday, spokesman of the national disaster agency said on Monday.

Three of the injured were in serious condition and the rest sustained light injuries in Buru district, spokesman of the National Disaster Management Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua.

As many as 239 houses were damaged with 68 of them severely destroyed and one mosque was also damaged in the district, he said.

The 5.4-magnitude quake struck Maluku province at 6:22 a.m. Jakarta time on Sunday (2322 GMT Saturday) with the epicenter 66 km southeast of Buru Selatan and a depth of 10 km. Endit
