Number of hotel stays in Switzerland stable in Nov.: report

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FS0) indicated on Friday that 1.9 million hotel stays were registered in the confederation in November last year, up 0.1 percent compared to the same period in 2014.

Though the number of visitors hailing from European countries decreased by 4.3 percent, FSO recorded a 12.6- percent rise in the number of Asian visitors staying in Switzerland, with 24,000 additional hotel stays reported in November 2015 compared to the same period in 2014.

Chinese tourists generated an additional 5,100 nocturnal stays in the month under review, representing a 8.5-percent increase.

FSO indicated that nine out of 14 tourist regions in the country registered a decline in overnight stays in November 2015 compared to the previous year.

Some 33.1 million overnight stays were generated between January and November last year in the confederation, a 0.7- percent drop compared to the same period in 2014. Endit
