Senior leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Yunshan on Friday urged putting candidates' moral standards and discipline first in the selection of competent officials.

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks during a meeting attended by the Party's organization department chiefs from across the country.

Liu said that during the year of leadership transition at both the provincial and grassroots levels, organization departments should bear the CPC's principles and President Xi Jinping's important speeches in mind and make sure qualified officials are chosen for the right positions.

Liu urged Party organizations to take responsibility in ensuring that official selection is properly conducted without unfair and corrupt practices.

Official selection should follow correct principles, emphasizing candidates' ideological integrity, loyalty to the Party, diligent attitude, and sense of responsibility, Liu said.

Liu also warned that misconduct such as practising bribery in elections, buying and selling official positions, and illegal intervention in selection must be strictly prohibited and punished.

The meeting was presided over by Zhao Leji, head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. Endit
