Chinese police break cross-border drug dealing chain

Xinhua, January 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A smuggling operation that moved drugs from Canada to China was busted by police, with 22 suspects caught in the raids, a customs official said Friday.

Police also seized 8.33 kilograms of marijuana, said Ni Zao, deputy chief of Chengdu customs in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

According to Ni, customs intercepted 10 postal parcels from North America containing marijuana in the second half of 2015. Police soon found that drug dealers in Canada were selling drugs online to buyers in Sichuan.

The buyers in Sichuan were mostly young men under the age of 25, including students from art colleges and those in the entertainment industry.

In a separate case, police caught a man in Chengdu, Sichuan's capital, who grew marijuana after buying seeds online from abroad.

Both cases are subject to further investigation. Endi
