Police raid Brussels home of Paris suicide bomber: local media

Xinhua, January 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

Belgian police have raided the home of Chakib Akrouh, who has been identified as the suicide bomber who blew himself up at an apartment in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis five days after the terrorist attacks on the city, local media reported on Friday.

According to Belgian public broadcaster RTBF, police are on the scene in the Brussels district of Molenbeek to protect journalists who had received a hostile welcome from the Akrouh family.

Chakib Akrouh was identified as the bomber behind the Saint-Denis apartment explosion on Nov. 18, 2015 thanks to DNA evidence.

The Belgian federal prosecutor said it was unfortunate that his identity had been leaked by the French press, which then forced Belgian investigators to hurry their raid on the property in Molenbeek. Enditem
