Over 24,000 transit documents issued to migrants in Macedonia in 2016

Macedonian Interior Ministry declared on Thursday that in the past 24 hours a total of 1,600 migrants were issued documents with the intent to claim asylum.

A total of 692 of the asylum seekers are men, 361 are females and 547 children. The migrants mostly are from Syria (929), followed by Afghans (432) and Iraqis (239).

According to Macedonian Interior Ministry information, a total of 24,118 migrants were issued transit documents since the beginning of 2016.

The number of migrants arriving from Greece at the temporary transit center in southern border area of Gevgelija has significantly decreased in the past days, the authorities declared. Endit
