India to help Pakistan investigate team on airbase attack

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

India would extend all help to a special Pakistan's team to investigate an attack on Pathankot airbase in northern India early this year, said a foreign ministry spokesman.

"The government welcomes the proposed visit of Pakistani probe team and Indian investigative agencies will provide it all possible help," he said.

The official also said the foreign secretary-level talks will be rescheduled in "very near future."

"The two foreign secretaries have spoken and they have mutually decided to reschedule the talks," external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said.

Media reports said earlier the two countries have decided to defer their foreign secretary level talks scheduled for Friday in Islamabad.

"The action against those responsible for Pathankot is still going on, so the foreign secretaries must have thought to give some more time before going ahead with the meeting," the spokesman added.

India also welcomed the action taken by Pakistan against Jaish-e-Mohammad as "important first positive step" in the right direction while welcoming the statement issued by Pakistani Prime Minister's Office detailing the status of action taken against those responsible for Pathankot terror attack.

India blamed the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed for the attack on Pathankot airbase in Punjab on January 2, in which seven Indian security men were killed while the six attackers were also killed. Endit
