Philippines condemns attacks in Indonesian capital

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Philippines on Thursday condemned the attacks in Indonesia's capital Jakarta, which have left seven people, including two suicide bombers killed and 20 others injured.

"We stand in solidarity with our Indonesian brothers and sisters in this time of tragedy," said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in a statement.

The department said the Philippine Embassy in Jakarta is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with Indonesian authorities.

So far, there were no reports of Filipino casualties in the attacks, it added.

Meanwhile, in a joint statement, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police appealed to the public to be extra vigilant and to help the security forces address the threat.

"Our security forces are well aware of the emerging threat and have been conducting operations to prevent terror acts anywhere in the country. With our collective efforts, we can make a difference in securing our people from any terror acts. That is the Filipino spirit of bayanihan (cooperation)," the statement said. Endit
