UK minister for Asia visits Sri Lanka

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The British Minister for Asia, Hugo Swire, arrived in Sri Lanka on Thursday on a three-day official visit to hold talk with the government.

The visit is Swire's third official visit to the island nation and the latest in a series of high level engagements between the governments of the United Kingdom and Sri Lanka over the last year.

During his stay, he is expected to hold talks with President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and and a number of other ministers.

Swire is also expected to welcome the Sri Lankan government's commitment to reconciliation and strengthening democracy since the end of its civil war, as well as progress made so far. His discussions will focus on further developing cooperation between the two countries and on UK support for Sri Lankan efforts to tackle the legacy of the conflict.

Swire will also visit the northern town of Jaffna and finish his visit to Sri Lanka in the southern part of Galle where he will attend a Literary Festival. Endit
