More Myanmar fishermen return from Indonesia

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Forteen more Myanmar fishermen, who have been stranded in Indonesia's Ambon Island, have returned to their homeland, an official report said here Thursday.

The fishermen were from Yangon, Magway, Taninthayi, Bago and Ayeyawady regions as well as Kachin and Kayin states.

Among them, two did not get their salaries as they could not remember the name of the fishing boat or the company that they worked for.

Police Col Ye Win Aung of the Yangon Region anti-trafficking police force said that they would try to get compensation for the fishermen through concerned authorities.

So far, 1,010 fishermen have been repatriated from Indonesia. There were 24 batches in 2015 and 28 so far in 2016. Endit
