Kiev reports 399 attacks targeting civilians since start of E. Ukraine conflict

Xinhua, January 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least 399 deliberate attacks targeting civilians took place in Donetsk region since the conflict in eastern Ukraine erupted in April 2014, a senior Interior Ministry's official said on Wednesday.

"Since the beginning of the military operation, the police of Donetsk region have recorded 399 terrorist attacks against the civilian population, in which 140 people were killed," Viachelav Abroskin, the head of the Interior Ministry's department in Donetsk region, told reporters.

Besides the fatalities, 776 people were wounded in the attacks, Abroskin added.

His comments came as Volnovakha town in Donetsk region marks the first anniversary of a deadly attack on a civilian bus, which claimed the lives of 12 people and wounded 18 others on Jan. 13, 2015, becoming one of the worst single acts of violence against civilians in the history of independent Ukraine.
