Atletico Mineiro close in on Argentine striker

Xinhua, January 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Atletico Mineiro are close to signing Boca Juniors striker Jonathan Calleri, according to widespread media reports on Monday.

The Brazilian club has beaten off interest in the 22-year-old from English second-tier side Brighton, according to the Ole news portal.

The Argentine, who had also been linked to Inter Milan and Bologna, scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 36 matches for Boca Juniors last year.

Calleri will be the third foreign player to join Atletico Mineiro in the past month.

The Belo Horizonte-based outfit have also signed Ecuadorian pair Frickson Erazo and Juan Cazares. Endit
