12 Taliban militants give up fighting in N. Afghanistan

A dozen Taliban fighters have given fighting and handed over their weapons to local authorities in the northern Takhar and Baghlan provinces on Monday, officials said.

Five armed insurgents, according to Takhar police spokesman Abdul Khalil Asir, handed over their weapons to police in Khawja Bahawdin district and resumed normal life.

Seven more militants, according to security officials, gave up fighting and reintegrated to their community in Tala-o-Barfak district of Baghlan province on Monday.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment. Enditem
