Lindsey Vonn matches WCup downhill record of 36 wins

Xinhua, January 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

American Lindsey Vonn matched the World Cup downhill record of 36 victories Saturday as she triumphed in the event in Austria.

Vonn became the second woman in history to claim 36 wins in the World Cup following Austrian legend Annemarie Moser-Proell, who set the record in January 1980.

Last year in Italy, Vonn broke Moser-Proell's record of 62 victories and now has 72 World Cup wins across all Alpine disciplines. She already held the record for most super-G victories with 25. That discipline was introduced in the 1980s after Moser-Proell had retired.

Vonn, four-time overall champion, will have one more record to chase as the Austrian holds six overall titles.

In Saturday's race, Vonn held a comfortable lead after the first run and finished in an aggregate time of 2 minutes, 11.17 seconds, one second ahead of Larisa Yurkiw of Canada.

Cornelia Huetter of Austria was 1.66 behind in third. Enditem
