Miscarriage of justice victims given compensation rights in China

Xinhua, January 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

China's top legal authorities have for the first time clearly stated that victims of miscarriage of justice have the right to state compensation.

The Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate on Thursday co-issued a judicial explanation saying that compensation applications can be filed in cases where people have wrongfully been subjected to law enforcement including imprisonment or having their assets frozen.

The provision is important in preventing abuse of state power and restoring public confidence after a number of miscarriages of justice in recent years, said Liu Hehua, chief of the SPC compensation commission. Endi
