Cote d'Ivoire's Prime Minister (PM) Daniel Kablan Duncan on Wednesday presented his resignation and that of his government to President Alassane Ouattara, an official source said.
"I want to present to you my resignation as well as that of my government," Duncan said during the first cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan.
He expressed "gratitude" of members of his government for having worked with Ouattara and thanked the president for providing "clear leadership."
"I accept your resignation as well as that of your government," Ouattara said, adding that a new government "will be formed soon."
The president said the new government's priority will be "promoting cohesion and efficiency in governmental actions."
Ouattara asked members of Duncan's government to expedite pending issues as they await the formation of a new government.
The resignation of the government "conforms to the established tradition" after every election.
Ouattara was re-elected for a second five-year term on Oct. 25, 2015, and began his second term on Nov. 3, 2015 after being sworn in. Endit
