1st LD Writethru: Indian-controlled Kashmir's chief minister critically ill, on life support

Xinhua, January 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian-controlled Kashmir's Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, currently undergoing treatment at a Delhi hospital for a severe lung infection, is "critically ill."

According to doctors treating him, the chief minister's condition is critical and he is on life-support machine at the intensive care unit of the premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Highly placed sources said the state's ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) is on a spree to appoint Sayeed's successor to head the government in case his condition deteriorates.

"Sayeed's condition is critical. His presence is required when the state assembly reopens for the crucial budget session. His daughter Mehbooba Mufti is the unanimous choice," the sources said on Wednesday.

The chief minister was admitted to the hospital since he fell ill on December 23 last year, and his condition has not for once improved. Endit
