Lugano quits Cerro Porteno as Brazil return beckons

Xinhua, January 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Sao Paulo are expected to announce the return of Diego Lugano within days after the Uruguayan rescinded his contract with Cerro Porteno on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old, who had been tied to the Paraguayan outfit until 2017, has already agreed to financial terms with the Brazilian club, according to media reports.

The center-back enjoys idol status among Sao Paulo fans for helping the club win four trophies in 2005, including the FIFA Club World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the final.

Lugano has been capped 95 times for Uruguay and captained the team at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. Endit
