Hannover sign Hoffenheim's Adam Szalai on loan

Xinhua, January 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Hoffenheim striker Adam Szalai has joined relegation threatened Hannover on loan, both Bundesliga clubs announced on Monday.

The Hungarian international made only four appearances for the "TSG" this season, and overall 30 since his arrival in 2014. As a consequence, Szalai penned a loan contract at Hannover, including an option to make the deal permanent after the season.

"I am looking forward to the new challenge here. I hope that I can recommend myself for Hungary's Euro 2016 squad. However, it is more important that Hannover stay up," Adam Szalai said.

The 28-year-old striker played one year at Schalke before he moved to Hoffenheim in the summer 2014, where he scored four goals in 30 games. Szalai made his international debut for Hungary in February 2009. He played 28 caps and marked eight goals ever since.

"Adam is since many years at home in the Bundesliga. He already demonstrated in all other clubs that he can score goals. We are very confident that this is also the case here," Hannover's sporting director Martin Bader told the club's official homepage.

Hannover face a tough second half of the campaigns as they sit on the 17th place, a direct relegation spot, with only 14 points from 17 encounters. The "Reds" face newly promoted Darmstadt for their kick-off after the winterbreak on January 23. Endi
