1st LD Writethru: Terror attack on Indian Consulate in northern Afghan city

Xinhua, January 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

There has been a terror attack on the Indian Consulate in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif Sunday, sources said.

However, there have been no casualties on the Indian side, they said.

"Two of the four militants, who targeted the three-member Consulate, have been gunned down by Afghan special forces," the sources said.

The attack came a day after militants carried out a terror attack on a key Indian Air Force base in the northern state of Punjab's town of Pathankot.

Seven Indian security forces personnel lost their lives in that attack, while five of the six militants have been eliminated.

The back-to-back terror attacks came as India and Pakistan prepare to hold foreign secretary-level talks in Islamabad in two weeks' time. Endit
