1st LD Writethru: India PM holds high-level meeting on airbase attack

Xinhua, January 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting Sunday night with his cabinet security team on the militant attack on an airbase.

The meeting also touched the future of peace talks with Pakistan, said local media reports.

Meanwhile, the Indian capital has been put on high alert in fear of possible terrorist attack.

Police received a phone call warning of a bomb being kept in a train on Sunday, a day after the Pathankot airbase in the northern state of Punjab was stormed by heavily armed militants.

Indian security forces were still battling with the remaining militants at the airbase, which has left seven military personnel and five attackers dead.

Police stations have been asked to step up security and conduct stringent checks at places of public gathering like malls and markets, according to reports. Endit
