Xinhua, January 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least eight spectators of the Dakar Rally in Argentina were injured on Saturday, three of them seriously, after being struck by the car of Chinese driver, Guo Meiling.

Guo, China's first female driver in the rally, appeared to lose control of her car, a Mini Cooper, after a jump and left the track three km from the end of the day's race, firemen told Xinhua.

The accident took place near the city of Arrecifes, 170 km from Buenos Aires, with eight people being transported to hospital. According to the organizer and Guo's team, Mini X-Raid, she was in good health but in a state of shock.

One spectator told Argentinean radio program, Campeones, that "in the zone where the car left the track, there was no barrier, no defenses."

The accident happened during the prologue on the first day of the Dakar Rally. The event was cancelled for the day for the automobile and truck sections of the race. Enditem
