Xinhua, January 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday evening hailed the defeat of militants who staged an attack upon a major airbase in northern India.

"Enemies of humanity can't see India develop, such elements attacked in Pathankot but our forces did not let them succeed," said Modi in a tweet.

At least five gunmen attacked a major airbase in Pathankot in the northern Indian state of Punjab early Saturday.

The gunmen were all killed while at least four Indian air force personnel and security men were also killed in a 14-hour gunfight. Endit
