Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen said here on Friday that it might be necessary to impose border control between Denmark and Germany.

In his new year speech, Rasmussen said Sweden would from Monday set up checks at the border with Denmark, which would create a situation "where we must introduce checks at German border if we determine it is best for Denmark".

The prime minister stressed that the final answer to migration and refugee crisis must be found internationally.

Rasmussen has previously said that the Danish government would keep a close eye on whether there will be more asylum seekers in Denmark after the border check is put in place.

The prime minister said it was a "very unfortunate situation" as the Danish and Swedish governments have invested heavily on building infrastructure up in the Oresund region across the strait. Endit
