2nd LD Writethru: 3 killed in car bomb blast at restaurant in Kabul

Xinhua, January 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

At least three people were killed and 15 others wounded after a suicide car bomber struck a restaurant in Afghan capital of Kabul on Friday, sources said.

"The blast went off near French restaurant Le Jardin, frequented by foreigners in Qala-e-Fatullah Khan locality. The incident took place at around 5:00 p.m. local time," witness Ahmad Soulaiman told Xinhua.

The security forces have cordoned off the area for precautionary measures and arrested a male suspect after the attack.

Those killed included one security guard, a 10-year-old boy passerby and the attacker, a security source told Xinhua anonymously.

About 15 people, including some restaurant patrons, were injured in the blast. They were shifted to a nearby surgical hospital run by an Italian aid group, the source added.

Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.

The militant group launched its annual rebel offensive against security forces in mid-April.
