CBA Roundup: Jeter, Beasley lead Shandong to 9th straight win

Xinhua, January 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former NBA players Pooh Jeter and Michael Beasley combined 63 points to lead Shandong past Qingdao 120-119, extending their winning streak to nine games in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on the first day of 2016.

Gong Xiaobin spent his playing and coaching career with Shandong before taking the helm of Qingdao early this season. Gong knew how to challenge Shandong. Shandong fell behind for the first half, especially when their young small forward Ding Yanyuhang was absent for injury.

However, Shandong tried to make a 98-98 tie before the last quarter. The final quarter became fierce. Sun Jie of Qingdao missed his final shoot, which sealed Shandong' s 120-119 victory.

Jeter took 33 points, and Beasley got 30 points and 18 rebounds. Gibson of Qingdao notched a game-high 46 points.

Shenzhen terminated defending champion Beijing' s 10th winning streak 108-93. Shenzhen had four losses before this match, so they needed a win badly on the first day of 2016. Beijing only led in the first quarter, and Shenzhen once led 24 points in last quarter. Stephen Marbury got 17 points when he made only 3 out of his 10 three-pointer shootings.

In other games, league leader Xinjiang beat Foshan 132-123, Bayi defeated Beikong 94-83, Guangdong tamed Guangsha 122-102, Jilin stunned Fujian 114-107, Liaoning crushed Zhejiang 124-103, Shanxi outscored Tongxi 116-102, Shanghai hammered Tianjin 106-93, and Sichuan downed Jiangsu 109-101. Endit
