Gambian court drops charges against former president's son

Xinhua, December 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

High court and Magistrate in Gambia has dropped charges against the son of former Gambian President Ebrima Jawara, judicial sources told Xinhua Thursday.

Mr Jawara was arrested in October 2015 charged with abuse of office under the Central Projects Coordinating Unit (CPCU) at the Agriculture Ministry.

On December 15, he was brought to court and charged with malicious injuries in general at the Banjul Magistrates' Court.

Mr Jawara, a son to former President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, has been a long-serving civil servant at the Ministry of Agriculture.

He first served as PS I and later coordinator of the CPCU overseeing donor-funded projects under the Ministry of Agriculture. He was on Monday reappointed as PS II and coordinator of the CPCU. Enditem
