Xinhua, December 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five people were killed and 17 others were injured in a road accident in Warakapola, close to central Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Police spokesman Ruwan Gunasekera said that among those killed were three women and a child.

The accident took place along the main road connecting Colombo and the central town of Kandy when a van heading to Kandy collided head-on with a bus on its way to Colombo.

Investigations are underway.

This is the second most serious accident to have taken place in Sri Lanka within the past five days.

On Saturday, four people were killed and three others injured in an accident involving a van and a tipper truck also along the Colombo-Kandy road. Enditem
