El Salvador defender shot dead

Xinhua, December 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

El Salvador international footballer Alfredo Pacheco has been gunned down while chatting with friends at a gas station, the country's attorney general's office said.

The 33-year-old was shot by an unknown assailant in Santa Ana, 66km west of the capital San Salvador.

Two friends who were with Pacheco were also injured in Sunday's attack.

"The attorney general's office in Santa Ana processed the crime scene of the murder of Alfredo Pacheco at 3.30am in a petrol station," an official was quoted as saying by local media.

Pacheco, who was banned for life for match fixing in 2013, played for the Salvadoran clubs Club Deportivo FAS and Asociacion Deportiva Isidro Metapan. He also represented US Major League soccer outfit New York Red Bulls.

The left-back is El Salvador's most capped player, having represented the national team 86 times. Endit
