Xinhua, December 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nearly 90 armed militants laid down arms and gave up fighting in the western Afghan province of Ghor with Firoz Koh as its capital 360 km west of Kabul on Sunday, spokesman for provincial government Abdul Hai Khatibi said.

"A total of 89 armed Taliban who were active in Dolina district over the past couple of years gave up fighting and handed over their weapons to local authorities in a ceremony held here on Sunday," Khatibi told Xinhua.

The former militants, according to Khatibi, also vowed to fight alongside government forces against Taliban rebels from now on.
