Bahrain's China Town opens for public

Bahrain's "China Town" business complex opened for the public on Sunday with hundreds of products on display.

The Dragon City, which cost 100 million U.S. dollars, is located in the Diyar Al Muharraq, a leading urban developer, and the inauguration ceremony was attended by the country's senior officials, including Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Abdulhakeem Alkhayyat, Diyar Al Muharraq chairman, said the Dragon City can help stimulate Bahrain's economy, and create a considerable number of job opportunities.

The project covers an area of 115,000 square meters, featuring a Dragon Mall, an Asian Dining Street and a car park that can accommodate 1,500 vehicles.

The concept was launched in May 2012 according to an agreement between Diyar Al Muharraq and Chinese company Chinamex.

The project is infused with Chinese inspired architecture and has shops divided in nine different categories; electronics, sports and leisure, textile and garment, children's fashion, home furnishing, building materials and sanitary ware, machinery and hardware, lightings and furniture, and kitchenware.

Trade volume between the Bahrain and China amounted to 166 million dollars for the first quarter, according to official government data. Enditem
