Monaco in pursuit of Brazilian defender

Xinhua, December 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Monaco are in the running to sign highly rated Brazilian centre-back Jemerson, according to media reports.

The French Ligue 1 side earlier this year sent talent scout Luis Campos to watch the 23-year-old play for his club Atletico Mineiro in Brazil's Serie A championship, the Sambafoot news portal reported.

Campos is credited with taking James Rodrigues, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and Bernardo Silva to Monaco in recent seasons.

Atletico Mineiro are seeking nine million euros for the defender, who is also being sought by other European clubs, the report said.

Jemerson has made 56 first-team appearances for Atletico since his 2012 debut.

He was called up by Brazil's national team for the first time in November but was an unused substitute in the Selecao's 3-0 defeat of Peru in a World Cup qualifier. Endit
