One person was killed and dozens were injured on late Wednesday in an explosion at a quarry site around 40 km northwest of Ghana's capital Accra, local police said Thursday.

The explosion occurred at the quarry site which was abandoned by Akuabo Quarry, a private company over the past four years, said Yaw Nketia Yeboah, Eastern Regional Police Public Affairs Director and Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Yeboah added that some of the injured have been treated and discharged from the Nsawam Government Hospital. Endit
