A French national who beheaded his boss and tried to explode a gas company in Isere southeast France in June, killed himself in his jail cell, local media reported on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old man who was in solitary confinement, hanged himself last night by using his bedsheets, local media reported citing officials at the Fleury-Merogis prison.

Six months ago, Yassin Salhi, a Frenchman of Algerian origin, rammed his delivery van into a warehouse of gas containers in a U.S. gas company in Isere to trigger an explosion which wounded two people.

The suspect of "an attack of terrorist nature" beheaded his boss, a 54-year-old manager of a transport firm, according to Paris prosecutor.

Without a criminal record, the father of three children was the subject of watch for his radicalization in 2006.

Speaking to BFMTV news channel, the conservative lawmaker, Georges Fenech, in charge of security issues denounced "a flaw in surveillance."

"It is absolutely inconceivable that there was not a permanent supervising of these dangerous individuals," he said.

"A considerable effort is needed to improve the situation, which requires the construction of (more) prison cells and strengthen the means by reinforcing the number of prison staff," he added. Enditem
