A court in south China's Guangdong Province sentenced a Malaysian woman to death with a two-year reprieve for trafficking "huge amount" of heroin.

Anusuya Karunakaran, 27, was convicted of attempting to smuggle around three kilograms of heroin from Macao to the mainland through Gongbei Port, Zhuhai city's Intermediate People's Court ruled on Wednesday.

The court confiscated all of the drugs.

She was apprehended in November last year at Gongbei. Customs officers found the drugs hidden among picture books in her suitcase. Endi
