Biyombo's career-high 20 rebounds leads Raptors over Mavs

Xinhua, December 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Toronto Raptors center Bismack Biyombo recorded a career-high 20 rebounds in the team's 103-99 victory over Dallas Mavericks in Tuesday evening's NBA game.

The native of Democratic Republic of Congo surpassed his previous career best of 18 rebounds set five days ago against Charlotte Hornets.

"Huge," said Raptors head coach Dwane Casey following the game. "He does a man's job as far as rebounding the ball."

Following a left hand injury sustained by starting center Jonas Valanciunas a month ago, the 24-year-old Biyombo has excelled as a replacement.

Since taking over as a starter on Nov. 22, Biyombo has averaged 11.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 16 games with double-digit rebounding efforts in nine games.

Over the past five games, Biyombo has collected at least 13 rebounds in each game and averaged an impressive 15.8 rebounds per game and 2.6 blocks per game.

"He's also blocking shots and gives us a physicality in the paint," Casey added.

The 20-rebound effort was just the 11th instance this season that a player has grabbed at least 20 rebounds.

Detroit's Andre Drummond has accomplished this feat six times this season, including a league-best 29 rebounds on Nov. 3 against Indiana. Biyombo joins a group of five players who has each recorded this feat once.  Endi
