France reiterates support to Libya's new gov't to ensure stability

Xinhua, December 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Tuesday reiterated Paris' support to the new Libyan government to ensure stability in the North African state and help fight terrorism.

France stood alongside the Libyan people to overcome security and stability challenges the country is facing, French top diplomat said during phone talks with the newly appointed Libyan Prime Minister al-Sarraj Fayyez.

As part of an emergency medical assistance to Libya, France would deliver drugs to Benghazi Medical Center in the country's second biggest city which was badly hit by violent conflicts.

Since the 2011 oust of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been plunged into chaotic violence, putting at risk the security in the Maghreb region.

After four-year-long political vacuum, delegates from Libya's rival factions signed, on Dec. 17, a UN-brokered deal to form a national unity government, a vital step to end bloody conflicts and promote peace in the country and in North Africa. Enditem
