Malta's int'l airport to expand terminal building and parking complex

Xinhua, December 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Malta International Airport (MIA) announced on Monday that it will invest 78 million euros (85 million U.S. dollars) to expand its terminal building and a new complex called Skyparks 2.

The airport will also renew its apron and the main runway with the replacement of the instrument landing system.

The CEO of MIA Alan Borg said the first phase of the terminal building expansion will be an 8-million-euro (8.73 million U.S. dollars) project that will increase the number of check-in desks and relocate the security screening area, doubling its footprint.

The second phase will cost 20 million euros (22 million U.S. dollars) to extend the check-in hall and departures area.

Alan added a further amount of investment will be invested in SkyParks 2 on a footprint of 4,000 square metres.

The project is due to kick off in 2016.

MIA is expected to hit the record by welcoming 4.6 million passengers in the whole year of 2015. Endit
