The forest coverage rate in Beijing's plain area has climbed to 25 percent from 14.8 percent in 2011, the city's forestry department said.
The 14 districts and counties administered by Beijing have planted an area of 1.05 million mu (70,000 hectares), or a total of 54 million trees since 2012.
The survival rate for the trees topped 95 percent, thanks to the careful selection of tree varieties that are resistant to cold and drought, the department said.
Beijing has introduced third-party institutions with nearly 20,000 forest rangers to supervise the green fund utilizing and encroachment on forest land.
Over 30 green areas that cover more than 10,000 mu of land each now surround the capital, the municipal landscape and forestry bureau said, adding another 380,000 mu of forests will be added by 2020, bringing the coverage rate in the plain area to 30 percent and the city's total rate to 43 percent.
