Safety checks ordered after deadly campus explosion

Xinhua, December 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Ministry of Education has ordered a safety inspection of dangerous chemicals in schools nationwide following a deadly lab explosion at Tsinghua University last week.

Aiming to identify and eliminate risks, the inspection should target densely-populated areas such as school dormitories, canteens, classrooms and libraries, the ministry said in a circular on its website.

Key storage venues such as labs, electrical distribution facilities as well as aging buildings should also be a focus.

The Beijing work safety authority believes the blast at Tsinghua, which killed a postdoctoral researcher on Friday, occurred during a hydrogen experiment. Endi
