The juvenile convicted for the 2012 Delhi gang rape has been released from correctional home by police, said police Sunday.
The convict, who gang raped a medical student on Dec. 16, 2012, on a moving bus along with five other men, is out of the correctional home, Delhi Police said on Sunday.
Police, however, said they were not aware of his whereabouts at present, said Indo-Asian News Service.
A Delhi Police official said the juvenile was shifted out of the correctional home around four to five days ago, said the report.
"The juvenile was shifted from the reformation home around four to five days back. He was taken to an undisclosed location and was under the observation of an NGO," Deputy Commissioner of Police (North District) Madhur Verma was quoted as saying.
"Now police do not have any information where he is," he added.
The juvenile, who was under 18 years of age when he was held with five other men for the brutal rape and murder of the paramedical student on Dec. 16, 2012, was tried under the Juvenile Justice Act. He was put in a remand home for three years, the maximum permissible under the legal provisions.
The five other men were sentenced to death and one of them has committed suicide in jail.
The gang rape, which shocked India, saw the six rapists brutally raping and beating a 23-year-old medical student on a moving bus in south Delhi. The victim died later of internal injuries. Enditem
